Getting Around Rhodes from the Cruise Port

Walking: the Old Town is genuinely walkable from most cruise berths, typically 10–20 minutes depending on your exact terminal position. Inside the walls, walking is the only practical way to move between sights, since streets are narrow, cobbled and largely closed to general traffic.

Taxis: ranks are usually available near the cruise terminal and around the New Market (Nea Agora). Confirm the fare or that the meter is running before you set off, and keep your ship's name and terminal details for the return journey — 'the port' can mean more than one access point depending on berth. Expect longer queues on days when several ships are in port.

Public buses: the KTEL network connects Rhodes Town with Lindos and other coastal towns, while municipal blue buses serve routes within Rhodes Town itself. Both run to their own timetables rather than one built around cruise calls, so allow generous margins if you plan to rely on them for a Lindos day.

Private drivers and guides: booking a driver-guide in advance gives you a fixed itinerary, direct pickup and flexible stops, which suits families, mixed-mobility groups or anyone who wants to combine destinations — for example a shortened Old Town visit followed by a coastal stop.

Organised coach excursions: the standard way most passengers reach Lindos, typically with a fixed group, set pickup point and itinerary. These are usually the lowest-coordination-risk option since the operator manages timing against ship schedules.

Rental cars: possible for confident drivers, but road conditions, parking near Lindos and the general unfamiliarity of driving on a single-day cruise stop make this a less common choice than taxis or organised transport for most passengers.

Choosing between options: for the Old Town, walking or a short taxi ride is usually enough. For Lindos or the coast, an organised excursion or a private driver removes the single biggest cruise-day risk — misjudging your own return timing on unfamiliar roads.
